Use It Up, Wear it Out... Make it due, or do without.

Thus has been my motto sense Nate's awesome Mother's first taught it to me. That and, "If you can't find it at Walmart... you don't need it." :).

So, with that in mind, let me tell you the story of... The Mattress.

We'll call it "Ode to the Mattress"
Or
"The End of an Era"
Or
"More than 3 decades worth of service"
Pick your favorite.

Once there was a young newly married couple who needed a mattress, so... they bought one. (or someone gave it to them... I really don't know.) They took their beloved mattress home and they slept on it everyday... for the next 24 years! Then, they (finally) bought a new mattress.

But what to do with their old beloved mattress?

They passed it down and gave it to their newly married son who also appreciated it. He held onto it for about 3-4 years (even had their first baby on it! (Thank heavens for plastic)) then decided to buy a new mattress of their very own.

But what to do with their old beloved, hand-me-down mattress?

They passed it on to his younger sister who, after being married only had a full sized bed to share, was only too excited to inherit the queen sized bed frame and mattress.

The mattress went along for the next 7 years from Arizona, to Virgina to Ohio all the while giving what comfort it could to it's sleepy owners... only poking them in the back here and there with it's weakening springs.

One day, the owners received a tax return!

Deciding that their aching backs and shoulders could use a little help they decided to retire the old beloved mattress and buy a new one, that has never been slept on by anyone else... or jumped on by generations of little feet... or birthed on.

But what to do with the now at least 35 year old mattress? (I wonder if Mom and Dad did buy it new, or if they inherited it from someone... if inherited... I would love to know how old it really is!)

We decided to let the tired old mattress "rest in peace".

So now we can too.

Now we just need a new bed frame... maybe next tax return.

HURRAY!!!!!! HAHA! I love the tale of this mattress! That mattress certainly WAS used up, worn out, made due with...and now, done with out! Happy Not-Waking-up-Sore!

OH MY GOODNESS GIRL! We are on the lookout for a new mattress right now because ours has two incredibly large canyons where Loren and I sleep. It's like a good inch and a half dent. It's HORRIBLE and I have the worst back pain from it. So every now and then Loren'll find me resting on the couch in the morning. Real romantic, right?

My kids are sleeping on mattresses that are probably that old. We really need to get new ones. Enjoy your new bed.
